Merging the sound worlds of jazz and contemporary classical, and set to real space sounds and projections, it is a unique sonic experience. Led by Keyna Wilkins (piano/flute/compositions) with Elsen Price (double bass) and Will Gilbert (trumpet), performances include freely improvised pieces. Formed in 2015, the trio has performed around Australia including MONA, City Recital Hall, Phoenix Central Park, Montsalvat, and many more. This tour is important to the international growth of the Ephemera Trio, with numerous performances in major venues throughout Australia, the ensemble will expand its horizons and share Australian original contemporary-classical music with a wider international audience. It will open Japan-Australian communication, understanding and nurture cross-cultural exchanges. Double bassist Elsen Price of the Ephemera Trio has successfully toured Japan twice as a soloist, with it being clear that there is a high interest in new Australian music in Japan. The planned tour of the Ephemera Trio in January is both an opportunity for Japanese audiences and Australian art, with the goal not simply a one off tour, but the start of a much larger artistic dialogue which will benefit the greater arts community.
Donating to this tour will support costs for travel and accommodation for the ensemble throughout their tour. This amount only partially covers expenses, though is essential for the overall success of the tour. The expected returns of the concerts will be an investment for future planned work for the ensemble, so this donation not only allows for a successful tour of Japan, but will put in motion future events for the group both in Australia and Overseas.
