SO WHAT BACH (2020)
SOLO PIANO
Recorded and mixed at A Sharp Studios by Richard Lake 2020.
Front cover artwork by Mowena Wilkins and CD cover design by Yoko Kuroda.
This album is a re-interpretation of six JS Bach piano classics. The "so what" chord consists of three perfect fourth intervals followed by a major third interval. It originates from Bill Evans' piano "amen" response to the head of Miles Davis' tune "So What". Bach would have loved it.

Front cover artwork by Mowena Wilkins.
The album concept is based on the Gamilaroi star-lore myth that Berriberri (or the constellation Orion) set out in pursuit of the Miai-miai (or the star cluster Pleiades) and cornered them in a mother tree where they were transformed into yellow and white cockatoos.
Yulugi is a collaboration between leading indigenous didgeridoo player Gumaroy Newman and composer-musician Keyna Wilkins. Yulugi means to play or have fun in Gamilaroi, the original language from Northern NSW. All tracks are ensemble-devised improvisations.
