I listened carefully to the many sounds of Willie Wagtail bird around Sydney when composing this piece, often notating the exact rhythm and pitches of their calls, and expanded these fragments into the whole piece. The middle section is contrasting in mood, but still retains some of the harmonic and motivid material. "Thirri Thirri" is the word for Willie Wagtail in Kamilaroi, the First Nations people from northern NSW, and I obtained permission to use the name.
